BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: The Pickwick Players present their 10th annual Children's Drama Camp! Students study and practice the basics of excellent stage performance and develop confidence and stage skills as they prepare a Broadway Mini-Musical. Experienced adult leaders and counselors encourage and warmly direct children in this positive, can-do program. Throughout the camp, students participate in hands-on experience in creating props, set, costumes and their characters. You will be amazed at what they can learn and produce in 2 weeks!

CAMP FACILITIES: Ours in not a camp per se - we just do special 4 week summer classes for all ages in June and July.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our teacher is Cheryl Felicia Rhoads who is pictured at left below in her Mother Goose costume in the 1990s. Cheryl earned her B.A. in Theatre Arts from the University of Iowa. After college, Cheryl's further formal training included studies with Josephine Forsberg at The Players Workshop of The Second City and with co-founder and Artistic Director Jeff Perry at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago. Cheryl was also a member of The Second City National Touring Company. She worked for 20 years in Hollywood as a professional actress, comedy coach, assistant voice casting agent, voice-over artist, director, and producer of comedy shows. In the 1990s, Cheryl's comedy classes for kids and teens were rated as "Best in L.A." by the alternative news weekly New Times Los Angeles.
Cheryl is also an individual acting coach who offers private lessons for actors who need help to prepare for auditions. She also teaches beginners and advanced actors practical advice about monologues, scene study, and improvisation with an emphasis on how to practice good diction and non-verbal communication skills that can often make an audition more effective and memorable.
Since 1995, Cheryl has taught acting to about 6,200 children, teens, and adults in both California and Virginia. When Cheryl worked in Chicago, she was nominated for a local Emmy Award and won a Joseph Jefferson Award for best actress in a revue. She also won a Drama Logue Theater Award for her performance in a revue in Los Angeles.
Cheryl was known to thousands of children in the 1990s for her starring role as Mother Goose in The Mother Goose Video Treasury. The musical nursery rhyme shows with puppets and live actors were very popular and favorably reviewed by Parents Magazine and are still sold today in the DVD format.
Cheryl also appeared on several network TV programs including as a series regular in the NBC show Against the Grain in 1993. She was also both a regular actor and a writer for The Motown Revue Starring Smokey Robinson in 1985. After re-locating from LA to Virginia In 2007, she started her own small acting school in the city of Falls Church for students from northern Virginia. But students also come from as far away as Baltimore, Frederick, Annapolis, Richmond, Haymarket, and Leesburg. Her school features small classes, private lessons, and audition-preparation coaching for advanced students who need as much individual time and attention as possible. Cheryl designs her classes and monolgues for all ages including adults without previous acting experience. Her students have been in films, won parts in school and community theater productions, and have filmed commercials and public service announcements.
Our new air-conditioned classroom offers ample free parking in front of a deluxe apartment complex club house that is located in a safe residential neighborhood near to the East Falls Church Orange Line Metro Stop and to major highways. Cheryl Rhoads is a proud member of the acting profession. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Inspiration Academy not only shares the incredible knowledge of dance, music, theater, acro, and art, but also instills the love and passion of the arts to children, two years through adults. YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: We offer regular classes in Dance and Theater year round. Our season runs from September to June and we welcome both boys and girls from 2-adult. We then also offer Summer classes that are not any part of Summer Camp.

Music is always monitored to assure that it’s appropriate, ALWAYS! Everything we do is VERY non-gender specific, so both boys and girls will be comfortable participating. Everything is also age appropriate based on the groups we have at any given time, and also the activities we are running. Every minute of every day is monitored by the fully trained staff members, so that safety is a priority.

BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Launched in 2009, the Summer Grand is an exceptional day camp experience for students who enjoy performing on stage as well as for those who like working behind-the-scenes. CAMP FACILITIES: Camp facilities include the use of drama and choral instructional rooms as well as a large high school stage and theater that seats over 1,000.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Launched in 2009, the Summer Grand has excited students and thrilled audiences with productions ranging from "Oliver" to "Big The Musical." Herndon High School Theatre Director Raphael Schklowsky will be directing this year's production, which is sponsored by the HHS Drama Boosters.
YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: The HHS Drama Boosters Club, Inc. provides year-round support to the Herndon High School Theatre department, whose students produce and perform multiple dramatic events every year.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Chanco offers swimming in our pool and in the James River, high and low elements Ropes Course for team building and challenging oneself, archery, arts and crafts, nature education, canoeing and kayaking, zip lines, sailing, skits, singing and competitions, chaplain program. Through a wonderfully diverse program schedule, the counselors help campers develop self-esteem, a sense of independence, make new friends, learn new skills, and have fun in one of the most beautiful spots in Virginia.
Chanco is ACA (American Camp Association) accredited and earned the distinction of "Best Summer Camp" in eastern Virginia in the May 2012 "Best Of" edition of Virginia Living Magazine. Chanco on the James is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia and welcomes all campers and staff of any race, creed or religion.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): Family Camp offers campers of all ages a chance to attend Camp Chanco together. Come enjoy the beautiful grounds, hearty meals, and delightful community. A sampling of favorite camp activities such as archery, boating, crafts and zip lines will be offered along with daily worship and singing. Choose to stay active all day or simply enjoy the rest, relaxation and quiet time in God’s beautiful creation in the woods along the banks of the James River. Family Camp is a perfect way to spend quality time as a family without the distractions of electronic gadgets and is a very affordable way to get away without the expense of a major vacation.

SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: Because of our 4:1 teaching ratio and the supportive nature of our staff, TIC has had success with children who have mild learning disabilities (dyslexia, ADD, ADHD). Camp Tall Timbers has a 4 -1 ratio of campers to staff.
Each summer much of our staff is made up of returning employees or former campers who are now in college.
The entire team at Camp Tall Timbers is a wonderful mix of teachers, coaches and college students. Each staff member is carefully selected for their teaching expertise in a given activity area, their personality, as well as their interest in working with children.
All staff members report to camp several days ahead of our campers so that they may go through our Counselor Institute. At Counselor Institute we thoroughly review daily responsibilities, situations that may arise, expectations for staff conduct and emergency procedures. Additionally, by the time our campers arrive, our staff has reviewed all the information about their individually assigned campers as provided by their parents. This is one more way we strive to ensure a safe, fun and personalized camp experience.
