CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our counselors are required to complete one session as a Counselor In Training before we offer them a position. CITs will shadow an established counselor as well as have a daily check in meeting with the directors. Before the start of camp they are also trained in conflict mediation, and required to become CPR/ First Aid certified at our Staff Meeting.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: We have several Merit and Need Based Scholarships and fundraising opportunities available. We hold several fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for the scholarship fund and grant scholarships to those who would not be able to afford it.

December 27th-January 2nd: Winter Film Camp. This is an intensive filmmaking session for all levels of experience.

January: BroadwayCon. This is a trip to New York for the Broadway Convention the last weekend in January where we see 4 broadway shows and have Master Classes with actors currently on Broadway.

March: Annual Saturday Morning Film Festival where we screen the films made at the Winter Film Camp in a real movie theater in the bay area.

April: Weekend Workshop with Casting Directors, Broadway Stars, or other amazing guests!

May: Cannes International Film Festival in France. Since 2016 we have taken groups of students to France for the Cannes International Film Festival with films we have made at the Winter Film Camp.

July-August: Summer Camp Programs

September/ October/ November: Weekend Workshop Series with different guests.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our Ballet studio is located in downtown Alameda near shopping and restaurants. It is in a beautiful old building with hardwood floors and large windows with lots of natural light.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Ages 4-6yrs: This level is for beginning students as well as those who have already been in a dance program. In addition to a daily dance class, children learn about and watch a different famous classical ballet each week. They explore their own creativity through exercise in movement concepts. Students also learn valuable lessons about anatomy, nutrition, dance history and vocabulary. Every child goes home with their own Ballet Camp Scrapbook they have created each week.

Ages 7-12yrs: This level is similar in structure and content to the camp for 4 - 6 year olds, but is for children whose focus, coordination, reading and writing skills are more developed. This camp includes a daily ballet class, video of a classical ballet, lessons in music, dance history, anatomy, nutrition and ballet vocabulary. Students explore their creativity with exercises in choreography and activities related to the classical ballet they are studying. Plus, students go home with their own Ballet Camp Scrapbook they have created each week.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our bright and sunny 3rd floor studio houses 2 full size pianos and a full size keyboard, as well as plenty of other instruments and a performance stage.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The seed of Sessions Songwriting and Music sprung to life in 2007 when its founder, Lauren Bruns, was discussing with a good friend and mother of two that there was a gaping hole in many of the musical programs offered in Los Angeles. Not one school was offering a songwriting component in which kids could express themselves through words and music simultaneously.

Lauren knew firsthand how songwriting benefited her life as a young adult and set out on a mission to create an easy-to-follow curriculum that inspired kids of all musical levels to create and express themselves through original lyrics and music. Our summer camps are led by real musicians who encourage kids to be creative while learning and having fun.

Sessions teachers are graduates of USC, Berklee and other performing arts programs.

CAMP FACILITIES: Cate School's grounds feature an athletic field, tennis courts, swimming pool, art studio and other recreational and program facilities.

CAMP FACILITIES: River Way Ranch Camp operates as a resort 9 months out of the year when camp is not in session. Campers stay in air-conditioned cabins, and sleep 8 to a room, with two counselors. Cabins are complete with a private bathroom and shower, closest and sink area. River Way Ranch Camp is a beautiful facility, complete with stables, basketball and tennis courts, three pools, an on-site lake, and a high and low ropes course facility.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: River Way campers are divided into divisions. The Buckaroos (ages 7-9) have two counselors with each cabin group at all times. They receive a challenging diversified schedule, teaching them many new skills. Beginning at age 10, Rancheros and Seniors have free choices of activity. CAMP FACILITIES: ODC Dance Commons, a 23,000 square foot building located at 351 Shotwell St. (between 17th and 18th streets), offers an environment where professionals, emerging artists, students, and dance fans can congregate, exchange ideas and inspire one another. CAMP FACILITIES: Mariposa Day Camp, located in Altadena, offers themed weeks with several different emphases for girls to choose from. Girls participate in new and traditional Girl Scouts activities while making new friends, developing self-esteem and making lasting memories. Introducing new and exciting activities this summer such as a brand new gaga court, low ropes and team building activities plus kids kitchen which gives each girl the opportunity to prepare a fun and different snack each week. Let’s journey back in time to when Laura Ingalls Wilder was a young girl. Campers will learn all about life on the prairie through hands on activities like making butter, sewing, and playing games from the past. Brownies will earn their Celebrating Community badge, Juniors will earn their Citizen badge, and Cadettes will earn their Finding Common Ground badge. Making a miniature robot, launching film canister rockets, and mixing up a batch of slime are just a few of the fun things we have planned for this week of scientific discovery. STEAM will come alive as we explore all of these subjects through hands on experiments and demonstrations. Brownies will learn all about bubbles, slime, and static electricity while they also earn their Home Scientist badge. Juniors and Cadettes will design their own video games while earning the Videogame Designer patch. Full STEAM ahead!

Welcome to the Jungle! This week of camp is all about our furry, scaly, and slimy friends who call the jungle home. Campers will learn about animals and ecosystems while brushing up on the outdoor skills they need to visit our furry friends in their natural habitats. CAMP FACILITIES: Shawl-Anderson Dance Center has four studios in a converted Berkeley Craftsman house. The center has been a vibrant part of the Berkeley community for over 50 years, teaching non-competitive dance to all ages and levels.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: This immersion is for students who have just completed grades 8-12 with at least two consistent years of modern dance training. The focus to immerse intermediate and advanced students in a rigorous week of training designed to enhance and support their technical proficiency in modern dance. FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): Skylake operates a Family Camp for a number of weeks prior to the children' camp sessions and again in the fall after children' camp concludes.

Skylake sessions run a minimum of two weeks. Sessions normally commence in the middle of June and conclude in the middle of August

CAMP FACILITIES: The facility is rustic, in keeping with its wilderness adventure program. Participants sleep in cabins and large traditional tipis. Katerina Romanenko, Ph.D. Assistant Director of Youth and Family Programs

An experienced educator and visual culture historian, Dr. Romanenko specializes in Museum education, art history, American History, and object-based learning in formal and informal environments. She holds a PhD in Art History from the City University of New York and for more than 15 years teaches art history and works in Museum education. She also holds a BA in Education Sciences and has experience in research, development and implementation of educational programs for different age groups.

Alicia Mino, Art Educator, Manager of the School and Community Programs

An accomplished practicing artists and art educator, Alicia Mino received her Master’s in visual communication from the Metropolitan University of Chile, She spent fifteen years in Italy studying art history, oil painting, and sculpture. She presented in numerous art exhibitions and founded the Mates Art and Design Studio, where she taught drawing, oil/acrylic painting, and sculpture fundamentals for ten years. In 2008 Alicia moved to Philadelphia where she continues to exhibit her work and teaches art.

Lindsey Murphy, Art Educator and K-8 Program Coordinator

An art educator with over a decade of experience in the field of education, Lindsey Murphy has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology; concentration in Archaeology from Millersville University, and an Elementary Teaching Certification from Millersville University. She worked as a general education classroom teacher in the Oxford Area School District in Chester County, PA for 8 years, and has worked in PAFA’s education department over the past 11 years creating and implementing numerous museum tours and art making experiences for children and families of all backgrounds, becoming the K-8 Program Coordinator in 2019..

Melissa Hendrixson, Art Educator

Melissa Hendrixson is an artist and art educator who has worked in Museum Education for over five years. She has her Bachelor's of Fine Arts and Studio Certificate from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and has gained experience through assisting the coordination and development of various museum programming including family programs, youth art classes, and summer camps. She now works for the School and Community Partnership Program as an art educator where she develops and implements museum tours, school lessons, and community outreach programs to support student learning, parental engagement and visual literacy initiatives.
